Dr. Starr is originally from Starkville. He graduated from Starkville High School in 1976, received his B.S. in chemistry from Mississippi State University in 1980, then attended the University of Mississippi Dental School and graduated in 1984.

He returned to Starkville in 1984 and opened a general practice. After two years in general practice, Dr. Starr opted to expand his education at the University of Alabama in Birmingham and specialize in periodontics. He finished his specialty training in June of 1988.

Dr. Starr specializes in dental implants as well as periodontics. Dr. Starr has performed thousands of successful dental implants since 1989. Dr. Starr uses the latest technology of laser periodontal therapy to treat gum disease. This procedure is less invasive to the patient. Dr. Starr completed training under Dr. Raymond Yukna for Advanced Laser Dentistry.

Golden Triangle Periodontal Center sponsors annual dental Hi-Tech continuing education courses for dentists and hygienists in the area and also sponsors hygiene study club courses. Dr. Starr has been practicing periodontics and dental implants in Columbus and Starkville for over 30 years.

He and his wife, Lee Ann, live in Columbus and have two daughters.
